Rath Yatra (Kang)- This festival is the greatest festival of Manipuri Hindus and is celebrated for ten days falls during the month of June-July. The highlight is the journey of Lord Jagannath from his temple in a Rath (Kang). The Rath is fastened with ropes and devout pilgrims pull the Rath all through the journey.

Heikru Hitongba- Celebrated in the month of September, this festival is associated with the rowing of long narrow boats by rowers along a 16 meter wide moat. Before the start of the boat race a deity of Lord Vishnu is installed.

Kwak Yatra (Dussera)- Just like the rest of the country Dussera (Kwak Yatra) is celebrated in Manipur during September/ October with pomp and gaiety.

Ningol Chakkouba- The month of October is known as Hiyangei in Manipur and during this period this festival is celebrated. The highlight of this festival is the visits to respective parental houses by married women along with their children. This is done to revive and strengthen family ties.

Kut- This is an autumn festival of the different tribes of Kuki-Chin-Mizo (Chikim) groups which is celebrated every year on 1st November.

Chumpa- Chumpa is a week long festival celebrated during December by the Tangkhul Naga women.

Christmas- For Manipuri Christians Christmas is their greatest festival. Various churches and villages conduct midnight services. Christmas celebration in Manipur extends up to the New Year festivities.

Dances: Apart from its colorful festivals Manipur is also known for its unique dance forms which include folk, classical and modern dances.

Raas Lila- This is the best known Manipuri classical dance associated with the sublime and transcendental love between Lord Krishna and his eternal consort Radha and his Gopi's (milkmaids) selfless devotion towards him. Performed usually at night, one can witness this dance performance at Shree Shree Govindajee temple and at local temples.

Nupa Pala (Kartal Cholom or Cymbal Dance)- This dance is performed by a male performer using cymbals. Dancer's wears white Pheijom (Dhoti) and spherical turbans and sings and dance to the rhythm of Pung (Mridanga).

Khamba Thoibi Dance- This is another important Manipuri dance. It is performed by male and female dancers.

Lai-Haraoba Dance- Held in April-May, the Lai Haraoba or Maibi dance is a spring festival dance performed during the Lai-Haraoba festival (an annual Meitei ritual festival). The dance describes Meitei way of life of the past.
