Do’s –
- Loss or theft of any important travel related documents may be reported to the nearest Government of Manipur Tourist Office / Police Station / Government of India Tourist Office etc
- For any emergency medical assistance contact hotel or accredited hospital / nursing homes
- It is recommended that tourists follow local tradition / custom guidelines while visiting religious places
- During summers cotton clothes and during winters woolen clothes are advisable
- While purchasing packaged drinking water look for the ISI mark. This is a government endorsed quality seal
- Refuse food / drinks offered by unknown people
- Foreign tourists are not allowed to take Indian Currency back home as export of the same is strictly banned
Topography and Climate
The state of Arunachal Pradesh has regions with different levels of elevation namely Upper Himalayas, Middle Himalayas, Sub Himalayas and Sea-level region in respect of their level of elevation. The Climate of each region depends on its elevation. Areas with very high elevation get a cold climate. Middle Himalayas gets a temperate climate, where fruits like apples, oranges are grown. Areas at the sub-Himalayan and sea-level elevation experience a typical sub-continental climate, with hot summers and mild winters.
The state receives heavy rainfall of 2,000 to 4,000 mm annually, most of it falling between May and September.
Important Information
Entry Formalities -
Foreign tourists visiting Manipur have to obtain the Restricted Area permit (RAP) from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India New Delhi. The same can also be obtained from Indian Missions abroad, Foreign Regional Registration office (FRRO) in Mumbai and Kolkata, Immigration office in Chennai and the Home Commissioner, Government of Manipur, Imphal.
Domestic tourists traveling via Dimapur/Kohima have to obtain an Inner Line Permit to pass through Nagaland. The same can be obtained from the Liaison officers of the Government of Nagaland at New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati /Shillong and the Sub-Divisional Office (Civil) Dimapur. The Deputy Commissioner of Imphal is also authorized to issue inner line permits to tourists traveling by road to Imphal from Nagaland via Kohima or Dimapur.
